About Alpacas:
Alpacas (Vicugna pacos) are domesticated camelids native to South America. They resemble smaller llamas and are typically raised in the high-altitude regions of the Andes Mountains specifically in Ecuador, at elevations between 11,500 and 16,000 feet (3,500–5,000 meters).

Unlike llamas, alpacas were not bred as pack animals but for their prized fiber, which is spun into yarn used to produce a variety of textiles such as sweaters, scarves, hats, gloves, blankets and of course, ponchos.

Why Alpaca?
Alpaca fiber is recognized as one of the world's rare luxury materials thanks to its remarkable combination of softness, sheen, warmth, light weight, and durability. It's also classified as a specialty fiber, with annual global production lower than that of cashmere, mohair, or angora rabbit fur.
